Pure & Original introduces Copenhagen Orange, created in collaboration with colour expert Dagny Thurmann-Moe and Koi Colour & Design Studio. Inspired by Copenhagen’s iconic façades, this shade is made with natural pigments that give it rare depth and metamerism, shifting beautifully with changing light.
When colour expert Dagny Thurmann-Moe, Creative Director of Koi Colour & Design Studio, and long time collaborator of Pure & Original Paint visited Copenhagen during the 3 Days of Design festival, it wasn’t the many product launches that left the strongest impression. Again and again, her eyes were drawn to the façades painted in the city’s classic orange tone.
Copenhagen Orange is magical in its changeability – it shifts from a warm beige to a glowing orange depending on the light and the time of day. It’s a colour many find irresistible – you just want to be in that room.
The ambition was to translate this historic and iconic colour into an interior setting. The original Copenhagen shade is so intensely pigmented that it becomes overwhelming indoors. Thurmann-Moe therefore contacted Pure & Original, her long-time partner, to develop a softer, more versatile version for interiors. The first sample hit the mark instantly.
Made with natural pigments, Copenhagen Orange has a rare depth and metamerism – a phenomenon where colours transform under different lighting conditions. In daylight it can appear calm and almost beige. In candlelight it glows warmly. And when the evening sun hits the walls, the room is transformed into a vibrant display of orange tones.
This dynamic quality creates spaces that feel both intimate and inviting. The colour has a magnetic pull: people are naturally drawn into the room, they sit down and stay. This is what makes Copenhagen Orange so perfect for spaces designed for relaxation or social connection.
With Copenhagen Orange, you don’t just get a beautiful new shade – you get an ever-changing experience of light, atmosphere, and mood throughout the day.
